BNI Strengthens AI Capabilities in Banking Through Expanded Cloudera Partnership

TLDR: Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) is deepening its collaboration with Cloudera to accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) across its operations, focusing on secure and compliant deployment of advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI, including the adoption of Cloudera AI Inferencing based on NVIDIA NIM. This strategic move aims to enhance digital banking services, fraud detection, and customer personalization while adhering to strict Indonesian financial regulations.

Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) is significantly expanding its strategic partnership with Cloudera, a move aimed at accelerating the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) across its diverse operational landscape. This enhanced collaboration is set to leverage Cloudera’s open, hybrid data platform to streamline critical processes such as data ingestion, governance, advanced analytics, and machine learning within a unified and secure environment.

A key highlight of this expanded partnership is BNI’s position as one of the inaugural adopters of Cloudera AI Inferencing. This on-premises service, built on NVIDIA NIM, will enable BNI to deploy open-source large language models (LLMs) utilizing NVIDIA GPUs. The full rollout of this ambitious program is slated for completion by the end of 2025. The joint efforts of BNI, Cloudera, and NVIDIA will primarily focus on ensuring stringent regulatory compliance, maintaining robust system resilience, and optimizing overall performance.

Regulatory adherence is a central pillar of BNI’s decision to embrace Cloudera’s solutions. The unified platform offers comprehensive data governance, end-to-end security, and deployment flexibility, which are crucial for meeting Indonesia’s strict financial regulatory standards, including those set by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI). This infrastructure also plays a vital role in helping BNI achieve its data sovereignty objectives.

Toto Prasetio, Chief Information Officer at BNI, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “We are proud to be among the first financial institutions adopting Cloudera’s AI Inference service. This technology gives us the infrastructure to scale our generative AI ambitions securely and efficiently, while staying compliant with Indonesia’s evolving regulatory landscape. It’s a major step forward in our goal to deliver smarter, faster, and more responsible digital banking services to Indonesians.”
