Banaras Hindu University and Affiliates Celebrate Teachers’ Day with Honors and Innovation Awards

Varanasi, September 5, 2025 – Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and its affiliated institutions celebrated Teachers’ Day with a series of events dedicated to honoring distinguished educators and promoting academic excellence. The celebrations underscored the pivotal role of teachers in shaping the future and adapting to evolving educational landscapes, including the integration of artificial intelligence.

On September 4, the Inter-University Center for Teacher Education (IUCTE) in Varanasi hosted a ‘Teacher’s Day and Teacher’s Honour Ceremony’ to felicitate six of its retired teachers. The esteemed retirees honored for their significant contributions to education included Prof. Subhash Chandra Tiwari, Prof. Ram Kishore Tripathi, Prof. Rajnath Upadhyay, Prof. Arvind Kumar Pandey, Prof. Harindra Prasad Singh, and Prof. Geeta Rai. The event saw the presence of prominent academic figures, including Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Vice Chancellor of BHU, and Prof. Bihari Lal Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. Prof. Prem Narayan Singh, Director of IUCTE, presided over the ceremony.

During the event, BHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi emphasized the critical need for teachers to refine their teaching and evaluation methods to inspire and engage students effectively. He particularly highlighted the growing importance of online education and the strategic use of artificial intelligence by teachers to broaden their scope of work and enhance learning experiences. Prof. Sharma elaborated on the five essential qualities of a true teacher: motivator, informer, speaker, observer, and enlightener, stressing their role in holistic student development. Prof. Prem Narayan Singh reiterated that quality teachers are fundamental to producing quality students and that character building remains the primary aim of education.

Further celebrating academic achievements, the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, organized its ‘Research & Innovation Day 2025′ on September 5 at Swatantrata Bhawan. This event, orchestrated by the Office of the Dean (Research & Development), featured awards for the best teachers, felicitation for patent achievements, poster presentations, and interactive sessions between faculty and researchers. This initiative aligns with a broader national recognition of educators, as the Union Education Ministry announced 45 teachers selected for the National Teachers’ Award 2025, to be conferred by President Droupadi Murmu. Additionally, 21 faculty members from various premier institutions, including IITs and central universities, were named for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT 2025).
