Babson College is celebrating a significant academic achievement as Talha Gulzar (MBA’25) and Assistant Professor Nada Hashmi secured the Best Student Paper Award at the seventh annual New England Association for Information Systems (NEAIS) conference. The prestigious event, held last weekend at the University of Massachusetts Boston, recognized their groundbreaking research in the field of artificial intelligence and education.

The award-winning paper, titled ‘Signals in the Prompt: Classifying Tone in Student–LLM Dialogues,’ delves into the critical area of student engagement with large language models. The research meticulously analyzes the underlying tone present in students’ AI prompts, offering valuable insights into how these interactions can be better understood and optimized. The paper further discusses the profound implications of these findings for developing ‘tone-aware’ tutoring systems and fostering course practices that actively encourage inquiry-oriented and reflective prompting among students.
