TLDR: Autodesk has become one of the first companies globally to receive ISO 42001 certification for its Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS), demonstrating its commitment to responsible, transparent, and accountable AI development and deployment. This certification validates Autodesk’s Trusted AI program, which is built on principles of responsibility, transparency, accountability, reliability, and safety & security.
Autodesk, a global leader in design and make software, announced on August 27, 2025, that it has achieved the prestigious ISO 42001 certification for its Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS). This makes Autodesk one of the pioneering companies worldwide to receive this international standard, which provides a comprehensive framework for the responsible development, deployment, and monitoring of AI technologies.
The ISO 42001 certification is a significant milestone in Autodesk’s broader “Trusted AI” program. This program is guided by five core principles: responsibility, transparency, accountability, reliability, and safety & security. These principles are not merely theoretical but are translated into practical actions throughout every stage of AI development at Autodesk.
For customers, this certification offers a crucial assurance of trustworthiness. As AI increasingly powers the future of work, automating tasks, augmenting creativity, and analyzing vast amounts of data, concerns around data privacy, bias, explainability, and security have grown. The ISO 42001 standard requires rigorous controls in risk management, accountability structures, and lifecycle oversight from design to deployment, including continuous monitoring and improvement of AI systems. This means customers can be confident that Autodesk is building AI with clear safeguards and robust governance.
Autodesk’s commitment to responsible AI is deeply embedded in its development processes. The company conducts thorough risk assessments before deploying new AI features and actively tests for fairness and unintended bias in its models. Where necessary, human-in-the-loop systems are implemented, and AI systems are regularly reviewed to ensure they function as intended.
The company’s AI strategy is overseen by a senior leadership executive committee, ensuring that trustworthy and responsible AI practices are upheld. Furthermore, Autodesk’s Trust organization, led by its Chief Trust Officer, is responsible for establishing and enforcing policies and standards across Trusted AI, security, privacy, compliance, and resilience. The Trusted AI Program is integrated into the development process, with careful evaluation of AI-powered product features and projects against established policies, standards, and Trust Principles for AI.
Autodesk’s AI features span three broad capabilities: analysis, automation, and augmentation. Examples include using AI for analyzing factors like wind and noise in design decisions, automating repetitive tasks with tools like Smart Blocks Object Detection in AutoCAD, and augmenting creative exploration through generative tools such as the Machine Learning Deformer in Maya.

This certification follows Autodesk’s earlier commitment in September 2024 to the EU AI Pact, where it pledged to apply the principles of the new EU AI Act ahead of its full implementation. This consistent effort underscores Autodesk’s long-standing investment in artificial intelligence and its dedication to ethical and safe AI development.
