TLDR: Artificial intelligence, particularly tools like ChatGPT, is increasingly being adopted in the UAE wedding industry, assisting couples and planners with everything from invitation design and budget management to generating creative ideas and 3D décor visualizations. While offering efficiency and inspiration, experts emphasize that AI complements, rather than replaces, the essential human touch in crafting unique celebrations.
The United Arab Emirates’ wedding landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, with artificial intelligence (AI) emerging as a pivotal ‘assistant’ for both couples and professional planners. Tools like ChatGPT are streamlining various aspects of wedding preparation, from initial conceptualization to execution, fundamentally altering how dream weddings are brought to life.
Recent data underscores this growing trend. A Zola survey, which polled nearly 6,000 couples, revealed that a substantial 90 percent are open to leveraging AI for tasks such as managing budgets, finding inspiration, and creating detailed schedules. Similarly, November research from The Knot Worldwide indicated that couples primarily utilize AI for assistance with writing and communication, generating ideas and inspiration, obtaining etiquette tips, and crafting trip itineraries.
AI’s integration into weddings is multifaceted. Rahul Kumar, Director at Dubai-based planning agency Vivaah Celebrations, highlights two primary areas of impact: “First, through invitations, where apps help design and digitally distribute them, and second, through planning, with AI tools being used to create 3D renders of décor and design concepts, giving clients a clear visual representation.” This capability to visualize concepts in 3D saves considerable time and effort, eliminating the need to sift through countless images to articulate a vision.
Beyond practical applications, AI serves as a powerful creative catalyst. Planners note that brides are increasingly presenting AI-generated videos and images for décor ideas. While acknowledging that not all AI-created concepts are immediately executable, the consensus is that AI enriches the experience by generating diverse ideas. “Still, I support using AI to generate ideas to enrich the experience. Your personal touch is what ensures it’s unique, not copied,” an unnamed planner stated.
However, industry experts also emphasize the irreplaceable value of human expertise. Kumar cautions, “Generative AI cannot replicate the intuition, creativity, and emotional intelligence a wedding planner brings to the table.” He also observes that for grander celebrations, UAE couples often still prefer turning to social media for inspiration and mood boards over AI tools. “Tools like ChatGPT may be handy for couples seeking DIY, budget-friendly ideas, but when it comes to larger celebrations, couples still turn to social media for inspiration and mood boards rather than relying on AI,” Kumar added.
