AR Rahman Reflects on AI’s Reality: Super-Intelligence and Generative Tech Transcend Fiction

TLDR: Music composer AR Rahman recently shared his insights on the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, stating that super-intelligence and generative technology are no longer confined to the realm of science fiction. He echoed director James Cameron’s sentiments on the need for ‘massive guardrails’ in Hollywood to manage this technology, emphasizing the enduring importance of human storytelling amidst technological advancements.

Renowned music composer AR Rahman has weighed in on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence, asserting that concepts like super-intelligence and generative technology have moved beyond fictional narratives into tangible reality. On October 7, 2025, Rahman took to social media to express his views, referencing comments made by acclaimed director James Cameron.

Rahman quoted Cameron, who, during an interview with an Australian news broadcaster, ABC, remarked, ‘James Cameron says his 1980s sci-fi is becoming reality. AI, super-intelligence, and generative tech are no longer fiction. Important reminder: tools are evolving fast but the soul of storytelling must remain human.’ This statement underscores a critical perspective on the balance between technological progress and human creativity.

Cameron further elaborated on his concerns regarding AI’s potential implications for the creative industry, specifically Hollywood. He stated, ‘In the future, it may be possible for people to finish jobs, without artists. I am so not interested in that. I think we need to put massive guardrails on this technology, and I think it needs to be done by Hollywood internally.’ This highlights a growing apprehension among industry leaders about the displacement of human artists and the necessity for ethical frameworks to govern AI’s use in creative fields.

Rahman’s sharing of these insights comes as Cameron’s third installment in the ‘Avatar’ series, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ is slated for a theatrical release on December 19. Concurrently, AR Rahman is actively involved in composing music for Hansal Mehta’s biographical series ‘Gandhi,’ which features Pratiek Gandhi in the titular role of Mahatma Gandhi. Both artists, while embracing technological advancements in their respective crafts, appear to advocate for a cautious and human-centric approach to the integration of AI.
