Apptio Launches Advanced FinOps Solutions to Optimize Cloud Investments in the AI Era

TLDR: Apptio, an IBM company, has introduced next-generation FinOps solutions, including enhancements to IBM Cloudability and IBM Kubecost 3.0. These solutions are designed to provide cloud leaders with improved visibility and cost optimization capabilities for complex, AI-driven environments, addressing the escalating expenses associated with AI development.

BELLEVUE, Wash. – November 3, 2025 – Apptio, an IBM company (NYSE: IBM), today announced the release of its next-generation FinOps solutions, significantly upgrading IBM Cloudability and IBM Kubecost 3.0. These innovations are specifically engineered to empower cloud leaders with enhanced visibility and robust tools for optimizing cloud expenditures within the rapidly expanding and intricate landscape of AI-driven environments.

The new Apptio FinOps solutions are purpose-built to meet the demands of the AI era, offering organizations end-to-end visibility across their diverse cloud infrastructures. This comprehensive oversight aims to boost practitioner efficiencies and deliver actionable insights, crucial for managing the escalating costs of AI development.

IDC projects that global enterprise investments in AI infrastructure will reach an astounding $571 billion by 2026. Despite this massive expenditure, an Apptio study revealed that 55% of business leaders surveyed feel they lack adequate information to effectively evaluate their technology spending.

FinOps, as an operational framework, is positioned to tackle these challenges by providing organizations with real-time visibility, fostering financial accountability, and enabling proactive management of cloud costs. This framework is designed to maximize business value and collaboration across teams.

Eugene Khvostov, Chief Product Officer at Apptio, emphasized the critical need for these advancements, stating, “Generative AI is not only pushing the limits of cloud infrastructure; it’s challenging the ability of technology and business leaders to make informed decisions and evaluate tech spend ROI. The AI era is one of information and compute-power overload.” He added, “So, it’s imperative for organizations to gain control over their cloud investments.”

Key components of the new offerings include:

IBM Cloudability Governance: This platform, leveraging the intelligence of IBM Cloudability and integrated with Terraform, enables FinOps teams and engineers to proactively understand cloud cost implications. It facilitates forecasting and compliance with internal policies before infrastructure deployment.

IBM Kubecost 3.0: Representing the most comprehensive evolution of Kubecost to date, this version introduces advanced capabilities and enhancements. It establishes a new Apptio standard for applying FinOps practices directly to Kubernetes deployments, ensuring efficient resource utilization and cost management in containerized environments.
