Anthropic’s Claude AI Expands Financial Capabilities with Excel Integration and New Data Connectors

TLDR: Anthropic has launched significant upgrades for its Claude AI, including direct integration with Microsoft Excel, seven new market data connectors, and six new Agent Skills. These enhancements are designed to bolster Claude’s utility in the financial sector, allowing users to interact with spreadsheets, access real-time market information, and perform complex financial analyses.

Anthropic, a leading AI startup, has unveiled a comprehensive suite of upgrades for its Claude artificial intelligence models, significantly enhancing their capabilities within the financial services sector. The key highlight of this expansion is the direct integration of Claude with Microsoft Excel, alongside the introduction of seven new market data connectors and six specialized Agent Skills. These updates, announced on October 27, 2025, underscore Anthropic’s strategic focus on deepening its presence in the finance industry and strengthening its partnership with Microsoft.

The new Claude for Excel feature allows users to seamlessly interact with the AI model directly within Microsoft Excel via a dedicated sidebar. This integration empowers users to prompt Claude to analyze spreadsheet data, modify existing workbooks while preserving their structural integrity, and even generate entirely new spreadsheets. This functionality is currently available as a preview to subscribers of Anthropic’s paid tiers, including Max, Enterprise, and Teams. This development builds upon an existing collaboration between Anthropic and Microsoft, which has seen Claude’s AI models embedded across the Microsoft 365 suite and into the Copilot AI assistant.

Further expanding its access to critical financial information, Claude now boasts seven new market data connectors. These connectors provide direct access to external tools and platforms, including Chronograph for private equity portfolio monitoring, Aiera for earnings call transcripts and Third Bridge insights, Egnyte for secure data searching, LSEG for live market data, Moody’s for credit ratings and company data, and MT Newswires for global financial news. These additions complement existing connections to services like S&P Capital IQ, Daloopa, Morningstar, and Pitchbook, offering a more robust data ecosystem for financial professionals.

In addition to data access, Anthropic has introduced six new Agent Skills specifically tailored for finance tasks. These skills, which are essentially folders containing instructions, scripts, and resources, enable Claude to perform complex operations such as comparable company analysis, discounted cash flow models, and initiating coverage reports. These pre-built capabilities aim to streamline sophisticated financial workflows.

The performance of Claude Sonnet 4.5 on financial tasks has been notable, achieving an accuracy of 55.3% on the Finance Agent benchmark from Vals AI, a metric that these new updates are designed to further enhance. Jonathan ‘JP’ Pelosi, head of FSI at Anthropic, previously stated that ‘Claude is already widely used by leading banking, asset management, insurance and financial technology companies.’ He added that the AI ‘supports front-office tasks like client experience, middle-office tasks in underwriting, risk and compliance and back-office tasks like code modernization and legacy processes. With ongoing updates to our models and products specific to financial services, we expect Claude to become even better in roles like these.’ These latest advancements are poised to solidify Claude’s role as an indispensable tool for financial professionals navigating the evolving landscape of generative AI.
