TLDR: AMobile Solutions has launched its new SoM-SD520 and SoM-SD720 system-on-modules, powered by MediaTek Genio 520 and Genio 720 SoCs respectively. These modules are specifically designed for Edge AI and Generative AI applications, offering robust performance with up to 10 TOPS of AI computing capability, targeting diverse sectors including smart surveillance, industrial automation, and smart healthcare.
Taiwanese company AMobile Solutions has officially introduced its latest innovations in system-on-modules (SoMs), the SoM-SD520 and SoM-SD720. These new modules are engineered to cater to the growing demands of Edge AI and Generative AI applications, leveraging the powerful MediaTek Genio 520 and Genio 720 SoCs.
The SoM-SD520 and SoM-SD720 are distinguished by their impressive AI computing performance, capable of delivering up to 10 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) of AI inference. This capability is primarily driven by the integrated NPU850 AI accelerator within both MediaTek Genio 520 and Genio 720 chipsets. The Genio 520 features an octa-core CPU configuration with two Arm Cortex-A78 cores clocked up to 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0 GHz, complemented by an Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The Genio 720 enhances this with Cortex-A78 cores running up to 2.6 GHz and a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU up to 1.1 GHz, alongside dual ISPs for advanced imaging.
These modules come equipped with flexible memory and storage options, including up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring high-speed data throughput and efficient multitasking. Connectivity is robust, with built-in Wi-Fi 6 (and Wi-Fi 6E for SoM-SD520), Bluetooth 5.2/5.3, and Gigabit Ethernet. The design also supports external 5G modules, providing enhanced flexibility for connected applications.
Software support for the SoM-SD520/SD720 modules includes Android 15, with Yocto 5.0 Scarthgap featuring Linux 6.6 scheduled for release by the end of Q4 2025. AMobile is committed to providing comprehensive hardware and software documentation, Board Support Packages (BSPs), and reference designs to facilitate integration.
The target applications for these versatile SoMs are broad, encompassing smart surveillance, industrial automation, smart retail terminals and self-service kiosks, smart healthcare, smart homes, interactive retail systems, and general industrial IoT. Their compact 260-pin SO-DIMM form factor (69.7mm by 50mm) makes them suitable for various embedded deployments. AMobile also highlights their compatibility with Large Language Models (LLMs) and the NVIDIA TAO Toolkit, further expanding their utility in advanced AI scenarios.
