TLDR: Ambiq, a leader in ultra-low-power semiconductor solutions, has announced the integration of its Apollo510 System-on-Chip (SoC) with the Edge Impulse development platform. This collaboration aims to significantly streamline and accelerate the creation and deployment of highly efficient and scalable artificial intelligence (AI) applications at the edge, offering developers unprecedented performance and energy efficiency for a wide range of demanding AI use cases.
Austin, TX – July 1, 2025 – Ambiq®, a pioneering force in ultra-low-power semiconductor solutions for edge AI, today unveiled a significant advancement in edge AI development with the integration of its cutting-edge Apollo510 System-on-Chip (SoC) onto the Edge Impulse™ development platform. This strategic partnership is set to empower developers to design and deploy highly efficient and scalable AI applications directly on edge devices, spanning critical sectors such as speech recognition, computer vision, healthcare monitoring, and industrial automation.
The Ambiq Apollo510 SoC represents a monumental leap in edge AI capabilities. Built upon Ambiq’s proprietary Subthreshold Power Optimization Technology (SPOT®) platform, the Apollo510 is engineered for unparalleled energy efficiency. It is powered by an Arm® Cortex®-M55 CPU featuring Helium™ technology, enabling processing speeds up to 250MHz. This advanced architecture delivers up to 10 times higher performance and 3 times lower energy consumption compared to its predecessor, the Apollo4 Plus, in typical AI inference workloads. The SoC also boasts a 2.5D GPU with vector graphics acceleration, providing a 3.5x overall performance enhancement over the Apollo4 Plus family for vibrant and smooth graphics.
Beyond its raw power, the Apollo510 is designed for next-generation AI, capable of performing a vast majority of AI tasks without the need for a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This includes low-power sensor monitoring, always-on voice commands, and teleco-quality audio enhancements. Furthermore, the SoC incorporates robust security features, built on Ambiq’s secureSPOT platform and Arm’s TrustZone technology, complete with a physical unclonable function (PUF), tamper-resistant OTP, and secure peripherals, establishing a trusted execution environment (TEE).
Carlos Morales, VP of AI at Ambiq, emphasized the transformative potential of this integration, stating, “The Apollo510 is an extraordinary platform for edge AI, as its improvements in energy efficiency and performance enable use cases that weren’t possible before. The integration of Apollo510 with Edge Impulse removes key hurdles for both enterprise and startup AI developers, enabling faster, more efficient deployment of edge AI applications.”
Edge Impulse, a leading development platform, simplifies the complex process of creating and deploying machine learning models on edge devices. Its collaboration with Ambiq provides developers with a streamlined pathway to leverage the Apollo510’s capabilities. Jan Jongboom, Senior Director, Technology, Qualcomm Technologies Netherlands B.V. and co-founder of Edge Impulse Inc., added, “The combination of Edge Impulse with Ambiq’s Apollo510, built on its ultra-efficient SPOT platform, gives developers a powerful edge AI solution. Together, we enable faster development of scalable AI applications.”
The Apollo510 has already garnered significant industry recognition, including the prestigious Embedded World’s Best Hardware award in 2024 and being named the 2025 IoT Semiconductor Solution of the Year by IoT Breakthrough. This integration means developers can now readily access Edge Impulse development tools for the Apollo510, accelerating their time-to-market for innovative edge AI products.
