Amazon Introduces ‘Help Me Decide’ Generative AI Assistant to Simplify Product Choices

TLDR: Amazon has launched ‘Help Me Decide,’ a new generative AI-powered shopping assistant. This tool analyzes a user’s browsing activity, search history, and preferences to recommend a single ‘right product’ with detailed explanations, aiming to streamline purchasing decisions and enhance customer confidence.

Amazon officially unveiled ‘Help Me Decide’ on October 23, 2025, marking its latest advancement in leveraging generative artificial intelligence to transform the online shopping experience. This innovative AI-powered assistant is designed to alleviate decision fatigue for customers by providing highly personalized product recommendations.

The ‘Help Me Decide’ feature operates by meticulously analyzing a user’s comprehensive Amazon footprint, including their browsing activity, search queries, shopping history, and expressed preferences. Based on this data, the tool suggests a single ‘right product’ and, crucially, provides clear explanations as to why that particular item is the best fit for the shopper’s specific needs. For instance, if a customer has been browsing various camping gear, such as four-person sleeping bags and camping stoves, and recently purchased hiking boots, ‘Help Me Decide’ might recommend a four-person, all-season tent, elaborating on how it aligns with their apparent camping plans.

According to Amazon, the tool is currently accessible to millions of U.S. customers through the Amazon Shopping app on both iOS and Android, as well as via mobile browsers. Users can engage with ‘Help Me Decide’ by tapping a dedicated button that appears on product detail pages after they have viewed several similar items. Alternatively, the feature can be accessed by selecting ‘Keep shopping for’ at the top of the homepage. Beyond a primary recommendation, the tool also offers ‘budget pick’ and ‘upgrade pick’ options, providing customers with a range of choices tailored to different price points and feature sets.

Daniel Lloyd, Vice President of Personalization at Amazon, stated, “Help Me Decide saves you time by using AI to provide product recommendations tailored to your needs after you’ve been browsing several similar items, giving you confidence in your purchase decision.” This initiative underscores Amazon’s commitment to integrating AI deeply into its customer journey, moving beyond simple product matching to a more predictive and explanatory commerce model.

The underlying technology powering ‘Help Me Decide’ leverages Amazon Web Services (AWS) capabilities, including Amazon Bedrock for generative AI, Amazon OpenSearch for search and analytics, and Amazon SageMaker for machine learning. This launch is part of a broader strategy, marking Amazon’s sixth major AI shopping tool introduction in the past 18 months. It joins other AI-driven features like ‘Rufus,’ a conversational shopping assistant; ‘Interests,’ which notifies users about new products based on personalized prompts; and ‘Shopping Guides,’ which curate expert guidance and product recommendations.

The introduction of ‘Help Me Decide’ also highlights the intensifying competition in the AI shopping sector, with other tech giants such as Google, OpenAI, and Perplexity also rolling out rival AI-powered shopping features. Amazon’s focus on explaining the ‘why’ behind recommendations is seen as a strategic move to drive higher conversion rates by fostering greater trust and understanding in the purchasing process.
