Amazon India Unveils Fifth Edition of Machine Learning Summer School to Cultivate AI Talent

TLDR: Amazon India has launched the fifth iteration of its Machine Learning (ML) Summer School, a free virtual program designed to train 3,000 students in advanced ML, Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs). This initiative aims to address India’s growing AI skill gap by providing comprehensive, expert-led training.

Amazon India has officially announced the fifth edition of its flagship Machine Learning (ML) Summer School (MLSS), reaffirming its dedication to fostering talent and bridging the ML skill gap across the nation. The 2025 program is set to enroll 3,000 of India’s most promising students, who will be selected through a rigorous qualifying assessment. Registrations for this highly anticipated program will be open from July 21 to July 31, 2025, with the curriculum commencing in August 2025.

Delivered virtually over four intensive weekends, the ML Summer School offers an immersive and entirely free learning experience. The curriculum comprises eight expert-led modules covering foundational and advanced topics, including Supervised and Unsupervised Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs). Each session is designed to be highly interactive, featuring live Q&A segments with Amazon scientists, allowing participants to deepen their understanding of core ML concepts and their practical applications.

Since its inception in 2021, the ML Summer School has made a significant impact, having trained close to 10,000 students. The program’s success in India led to its global expansion, with editions launched in Australia in 2023 and more recently introduced in the EMEA region under the name ‘Amazon Science Campus.’ These international versions are tailored to meet the specific needs of students across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, aligning with Amazon’s long-term vision of cultivating future-ready talent in machine learning and science worldwide.

Rajeev Rastogi, Vice President, Machine Learning at Amazon, emphasized the program’s importance, stating, “At Amazon, we believe that true innovation begins with access to knowledge, mentorship, and opportunity. The ML Summer School is more than just a training program – it’s a launchpad for aspiring talent to build, experiment, and grow in the evolving world of AI and ML. As we launch the fifth edition in India, we remain committed to democratizing machine learning education and empowering students to become the next wave of ML leaders.”

Amazon extensively applies Machine Learning across its diverse business operations, including enhancing the accuracy of search results, personalizing product recommendations, optimizing delivery routes, demand forecasting, fraud detection, language translation, Alexa’s speech recognition, and recommendation systems. This widespread application underscores the transformative potential of ML when deployed at scale.

The program directly addresses a critical industry challenge: a significant AI talent gap. Reports indicate that 79% of employers struggle to find the right talent, and 91% of Indian employers lack clarity on how to implement AI learning programs internally. Amazon’s ML Summer School aims to bridge this gap by offering accessible, high-impact training aligned with industry demands. The curriculum is meticulously crafted by Amazon ML scientists, reflecting evolving global trends and real-world needs.
