Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has been officially recognized as a leader in the generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) cloud market, according to the latest ‘Market Radar: GenAI Cloud Titans in Asia & Oceania 2025’ report by Omdia. The report, published on July 21, 2025, places Alibaba Cloud in the prestigious ‘Leader’ quadrant, acknowledging its strong generative AI capabilities and extensive product offerings across the Asia & Oceania region.
Out of nine global vendors evaluated by Omdia, Alibaba Cloud was one of only four companies to achieve the ‘Leader’ designation. The evaluation covered nine critical dimensions, including GenAI models, model optimization, GenAI infrastructure, development platforms, deployment, security, and developer community engagement. Notably, Alibaba Cloud received the highest ‘Advanced’ rating in seven of these nine categories, the most among all leaders featured in the report.
Omdia highlighted Alibaba Cloud’s leadership stems from its full-stack generative AI solutions, comprehensive and developer-friendly platform, and significant open-source initiatives. The report specifically lauded Alibaba Cloud’s Model Studio and Platform for AI (PAI) for providing enterprises with an accessible environment to build and deploy GenAI applications. This is further bolstered by its cutting-edge infrastructure, including the PAI-Lingjun Intelligent Computing Service.
In a statement within the report, Omdia affirmed, ‘Alibaba Cloud offers end-to-end technology capabilities, including foundation models, GenAI platform, infrastructure, and applications. This positions it as a significant competitor in the global GenAI landscape.’
The company’s reach and impact are evident in its customer adoption figures. As of January 2025, over 290,000 customers across diverse sectors such as robotics, healthcare, education, finance, and automotive industries have adopted Alibaba Cloud’s Qwen models via Model Studio. Furthermore, Alibaba Cloud has demonstrated a strong commitment to the open-source AI community, releasing over 200 advanced AI models since August 2023, with its Qwen family of models achieving more than 400 million downloads on various platforms.

The Omdia report also sheds light on the rapid growth of the GenAI market in Asia and Oceania. It estimates that the revenue for GenAI software in the region will reach USD $5.5 billion in 2025, with projections indicating a substantial expansion to USD $19.8 billion by 2029. The report also found that 27% of enterprises in the region are currently deploying GenAI solutions, while an additional 33% are piloting GenAI within at least one area of their business, underscoring the increasing momentum for enterprise adoption of generative AI solutions.
