Professor Kang Joo-young, a distinguished faculty member in the business department at Ajou University, has been awarded the prestigious Achievement Award at the 12th Korea Big Data AI Awards. The accolade, presented on September 22, 2025, acknowledges Professor Kang’s profound impact on solving critical data utilization issues faced by small and medium-sized companies.
His recognition stems from pioneering convergence research and innovative educational approaches that seamlessly blend artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and business administration. This interdisciplinary methodology has been instrumental in fostering convergent talents equipped with field-level expertise and robust data utilization capabilities, directly addressing the evolving demands of the digital economy.
Professor Kang’s academic journey is marked by excellence, holding a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology, a master’s degree from Seoul National University, and a doctorate from KAIST. With over two decades of dedicated service at Ajou University, he has consistently delivered remarkable results in AI and big data-based data analysis and sustainability research. His academic prowess is further evidenced by the publication of over 100 papers in leading journals, including those ranked in the top 1% of JCR, and the acquisition of more than 20 patents, four of which are international. Notably, two of these patented technologies have successfully transitioned into practical applications through technology transfer, contributing directly to societal value creation in areas such as climate change response and energy saving, and stimulating new business ventures.
Beyond his research, Professor Kang has spearheaded major national initiatives, including the ‘Digital Transformation Industry Data Training’ project, and various industry-academia collaborations. These projects have yielded reciprocal benefits, offering students invaluable practical experience to cultivate their skills for real-world application, while simultaneously assisting companies in enhancing their data utilization capabilities.
