Dhaka, Bangladesh – The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is celebrating a significant achievement as its student team, ‘Tech Wing’, clinched the prestigious Business Services (Student Division) award at the Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Awards 2025. The team was recognized for their innovative ‘Hybrid Fraud Shield’ project, an advanced AI-based system aimed at combating online financial fraud.
The award ceremony, a highlight of the national technology calendar, took place on October 18, 2025, at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). The event, organized by the Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Network (BIIN), honored outstanding technological innovations from across the country. This year saw a robust competition with 255 projects submitted nationwide, from which 90+ were shortlisted, and ultimately 32 ideas received final recognition.
The ‘Tech Wing’ team comprises talented Computer Science students Kiyas Mahmud, Md Maruf Hossain Munna, and Syeda Shakira Akter. Their groundbreaking work was guided by the expert supervision of Prof Dr Afroza Nahar and Assistant Professor Ms Nuzhat Tabassum.
‘Hybrid Fraud Shield’ leverages the power of Artificial Intelligence to detect and prevent online financial fraud in real-time. The system’s core objective is to significantly enhance transaction security and bolster trust in digital payment systems, a critical need in today’s increasingly digital economy.
Following their national triumph, the ‘Tech Wing’ team has earned the honor of representing Bangladesh on the international stage. They have been selected to showcase their ‘Hybrid Fraud Shield’ project at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2025, scheduled to be held from December 4 to 8, 2025. This international recognition underscores the project’s potential impact and the innovative spirit fostered at AIUB.
