TLDR: An AI-powered Umrah advisor named “Ibraheem” has been launched by Umrah Companions, in collaboration with Saudi-based Funadiq, to simplify pilgrimage planning, reduce costs by up to 20 percent, and enhance the experience for millions of Muslims, including Pakistan’s 2 million annual pilgrims. The tool offers personalized guidance in multiple languages, addressing issues like language barriers and high costs associated with traditional travel agents.
ISLAMABAD – A groundbreaking artificial intelligence-powered Umrah advisor, “Ibraheem,” has been introduced to the market, promising to transform the pilgrimage experience for millions of Muslims globally, particularly the two million annual pilgrims from Pakistan. Developed by Pakistani company Umrah Companions and powered by Saudi-based Destination Management Company Funadiq, “Ibraheem” aims to significantly cut pilgrimage costs and enhance the overall journey.
The newly launched AI tool, unveiled last week, is designed to offer personalized guidance in multiple languages, including Urdu, Roman Urdu, Arabic, and English. Its primary objective is to reduce Umrah-related expenses by as much as 20 percent, addressing a critical barrier for many aspiring pilgrims. Mohammad Salman Arain, CEO of Umrah Companions, highlighted the financial challenge, stating in an interview with Arab News, “Today, 93% of global Muslims cannot afford Hajj and Umrah. It is too expensive.” He further emphasized the mission behind “Ibraheem,” noting, “It is becoming expensive because we are not removing the inefficiencies in the processes — and that is what our mission is.”
Pakistan represents one of the world’s largest pilgrimage markets, with its citizens spending over $5 billion annually on Umrah and Hajj. Pilgrims from Pakistan often encounter significant hurdles, including language barriers, a lack of personalized travel information, and inflated costs when booking through conventional human agents who typically offer rigid, fixed packages. “Ibraheem” is engineered to overcome these challenges by adapting to individual user needs, whether they are traveling with elderly parents, young children, or operating within specific budget constraints.
The AI assistant provides real-time recommendations on a comprehensive range of services, including flights, hotels, food, weather, medical facilities, and even specialized services like wheelchair availability near the Haram in Makkah. Arain explained the tool’s user-friendliness: “You can start with a very simple question: ‘I want to travel in August. Give me an estimated budget for four people.’ Ibraheem will then suggest premium or budget options, tell you whether hotels are suitable for elderly companions, and help build your itinerary.” Its multi-language support and adaptability for smartphones and low-bandwidth environments make it particularly accessible for Pakistani blue- and white-collar workers residing in the Gulf, who often lack access to transparent and user-friendly tech solutions.

Since its soft launch, “Ibraheem” has already contributed to a 25% increase in website traffic for Umrah Companions. The platform is being developed as an open system, intended to be available for use by all Muslims, irrespective of the company through which they book their pilgrimage. This initiative aligns seamlessly with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to improve the pilgrimage experience through digital transformation and enhanced accessibility. Arain affirmed that the AI platform complements the Kingdom’s broader efforts to modernize religious tourism and ensure cost-effective pilgrimage options for lower-income Muslims.
