AI-Powered Agents Set to Transform Broadcast Workflows at IBC 2025

TLDR: IBC 2025 will spotlight the transformative potential of studio-based AI agents in radio and broader broadcast technology. Key initiatives include the IBC Accelerator Project 2025, focusing on AI Assistance Agents in Live Production, and Moments Lab’s unveiling of its AI-powered Video Discovery Agent. These advancements aim to leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance automation, streamline workflows, and redefine human-AI interaction in live content creation.

IBC 2025, scheduled from September 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam, is poised to highlight the significant advancements of studio-based AI agents in revolutionizing radio and broadcast technology. A central focus will be the ‘Accelerator Project 2025: AI Assistance Agents in Live Production,’ an initiative championed by industry leaders like ITN and BBC. This project envisions AI-driven production assistants seamlessly integrating into control room workflows, thereby enhancing live production through intelligent automation. By leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), these AI Assistant Agents are designed to navigate run orders, detect errors, preempt potential issues, and even control production systems via natural language commands. This approach redefines AI not merely as a tool but as a next-generation user interface (UI), empowering operators to react with unprecedented speed, accuracy, and confidence. The project builds upon insights from the 2024 Accelerators Project of the Year, ‘Evolution of the Control Room,’ aiming to develop a detailed framework for integrating LLMs into live content creation and reshaping production control.

Further underscoring this trend, Moments Lab will unveil its new Discovery Agent at IBC2025, an AI-powered research assistant specifically designed for video production teams. This innovative agent offers a natural language, chat-style experience, enabling users to quickly locate precise clips, quotes, or scenes from their media library without the need for complex keyword searches or technical expertise. Phil Petitpont, co-founder and CEO of Moments Lab, articulated the agent’s utility, stating, ‘You can think of our Discovery Agent as your personal research assistant, one who can remember every single video in your archive.’ He added that the Discovery Agent is powered by their MXT-2 AI indexing technology, which understands and describes videos like a human. Moments Lab’s MXT-2 also features Custom Moments for time-coded shot descriptions and Custom Insights for automatic text generation and content classification. Moments Lab is a proud participant in the 2025 IBC Accelerator Programme project, aiming to deploy the Video Discovery Agent in live news workflows and integrate it with other production tools.

The broader industry impact of these AI agents is expected to be profound. By introducing AI-powered automation, production teams can significantly enhance efficiency, reduce cognitive load, and streamline workflows in high-pressure live environments. This shift represents a move towards genuine AI integration rather than mere experimentation, setting new standards for AI-driven live production that remain adaptive, reliable, and deeply embedded in real-world broadcast operations.
