TLDR: Global venture capital firm Accel has expanded its pre-seed scaling program, Accel Atoms, by launching two new tracks: Accel Atoms AI and Accel Atoms X. These programs are designed to support Indian and Indian-origin founders worldwide, offering up to $1 million in funding, over $5 million in perks, and personalized mentorship to foster innovation in AI and other paradigm-shifting technologies.
Bengaluru, July 11, 2025 – Accel, a prominent global venture capital firm, today announced a significant expansion of its pre-seed scaling initiative, Accel Atoms, introducing two specialized tracks: Accel Atoms AI and Accel Atoms X. This strategic move aims to bolster Indian and Indian-origin founders globally, providing comprehensive support for their journey from concept to market. The programs are open to founders based anywhere in the world, including those educated in India who have since moved abroad, emphasizing Accel’s commitment to a borderless approach to innovation.
Each selected startup in either program stands to receive up to $1 million in funding, along with perks valued at over $5 million from Accel’s extensive network partners, which include industry giants like OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, Google, and Stripe. Beyond capital, founders will benefit from hands-on mentorship from global AI operators and access to a curated network of technologists and R&D experts, alongside narrative and commercialization workshops.
The Accel Atoms AI program, the third dedicated AI cohort, is spearheaded by Accel Partners Prayank Swaroop, Anand Daniel, and Anagh Prasad. It targets early-stage startups by Indian and Indian-origin founders who are leveraging AI to solve critical business problems or build foundational tools for the AI development stack. This encompasses a wide range of applications, from foundational models like small language models on the edge and robotics data to infrastructure tools for LLM testing and securing AI systems, as well as core AI models and agents.
Prayank Swaroop, Partner at Accel, highlighted the evolving landscape: “We’re seeing a fundamental shift where Indian founders in AI are moving to global markets earlier than ever before, to be closer to their first customers. These founders understand that while AI is borderless, execution isn’t. They’re building from day zero with global ambition, but they need the right support system to navigate cross-border complexities. That’s what we’re providing through Accel Atoms – the ability to build and iterate with the backing of capital, mentorship, and infrastructure without being constrained by geography.”
Anand Daniel, also a Partner at Accel, added, “Indian and Indian-origin founders are right at the center of the inflection point in AI. The success of companies like Ema and Bridgetown Research shows us that founders tapping into the cross-border advantage – building what customers want, with great speed, and while tapping into the breadth and depth of India’s talent pool – can beat global competition by a significant margin.”
Complementing the AI focus, Accel Atoms X is a new track dedicated to breakthrough innovation, led by Pratik Agarwal, Partner at Accel. This program is designed for ‘LeapTech’ innovations that aim to radically improve the human experience through novel products, technologies, or business models. These ventures often require extended development cycles, deep conviction, and non-linear thinking.
