TLDR: MariaDB has launched its Enterprise Platform 2026, a unified cloud database solution designed to accelerate the development of agentic AI applications. The platform integrates transactional, analytical, and AI (vector) database engines, offering features like native vector search, built-in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and intelligent AI agents, including developer and DBA copilots. This release also boasts significant performance improvements and a strategic partnership with Exasol AG for high-performance analytics.
MariaDB plc, a leading provider of database management systems, has announced the immediate availability of its MariaDB Enterprise Platform 2026, a groundbreaking unified cloud database platform engineered to accelerate the development of next-generation artificial intelligence applications. This new offering aims to simplify the creation of AI-driven applications by consolidating transactional, analytical, and AI (vector) database engines into a single, high-performance, and secure data source.
The Enterprise Platform 2026 introduces several advanced capabilities crucial for modern AI development. It features native vector search, a core component for AI applications to comprehend meaning and context, thereby reducing latency, infrastructure complexity, and the need for separate vector databases. Additionally, the platform incorporates built-in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and intelligent AI agents, fundamentally transforming the speed of innovation for data-driven applications.
Among the preconfigured AI agents are a developer copilot and a DBA AI copilot. The developer copilot provides text-to-SQL capabilities, enabling developers to generate SQL queries from natural language to extract insights from data. The DBA Copilot enhances administrator productivity by offering database administration features such as performance tuning and error debugging.
Performance is a key highlight of the new platform. MariaDB’s Enterprise Server 11.8, a core component of Enterprise Platform 2026, has demonstrated a 250% performance improvement compared to its predecessor, version 11.6.
Further bolstering its analytical capabilities, MariaDB has forged a strategic partnership with Exasol AG, a provider of high-performance analytics engines. This collaboration introduces MariaDB Exa, a joint solution that integrates Exasol’s analytics engine with the unified AI enterprise platform. MariaDB Exa is designed for complex analytics on multi-terabyte and petabyte-scale datasets, offering speeds reportedly over 1,000 times faster than traditional OLTP engines and many times faster than other leading analytical engines. Independent benchmarks suggest it can be 20 times faster than other cloud companies.
Vikas Mathur, Chief Product Officer at MariaDB plc, emphasized the strategic shift: “The future of applications is agentic. AI agents need to probe, analyze and transact in real time and at enormous scale. At the same time, agents need to be grounded in insights contained in enterprise data that is trapped in fragmented silos today. MariaDB Enterprise Platform 2026 is purpose-built to eliminate that architectural friction.”
Joerg Tewes, CEO of Exasol, added, “MariaDB customers can now deploy a truly converged database solution that supports the performance requirements of GenAI, real-time dashboards, and complex data science — all while maintaining data governance and strict cost control.”
