Nagish Bolsters AI-Powered Accessibility with Acquisition of Real-Time Sign Language Translation Innovator sign.mt

TLDR: Nagish, a leader in AI communication tools for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, has acquired sign.mt, an AI company specializing in real-time sign language translation. This strategic move aims to significantly advance research and development in AI-driven accessibility, particularly for American Sign Language (ASL) users, addressing the critical shortage of interpreters and enhancing communication independence.

Nagish, a prominent provider of AI-powered communication solutions for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, announced on October 22, 2025, its acquisition of sign.mt. sign.mt is an award-winning AI company recognized for its pioneering work in real-time sign language translation, leveraging complex computer vision, generative AI, and advanced translation research. This acquisition underscores Nagish’s commitment to breaking down communication barriers and enhancing accessibility for millions globally.

As part of the acquisition, Dr. Amit Moryossef, the founder of sign.mt, will join Nagish as its new Head of Research. Under Dr. Moryossef’s leadership, Nagish plans to invest millions of dollars in research and development over the next few years, focusing on exploring AI applications to benefit hundreds of thousands of sign language users in the U.S. and millions worldwide.

The acquisition directly addresses the significant shortage of certified ASL interpreters. With an estimated 500,000 deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the U.S. using ASL as their primary language, there are only approximately 10,000 certified interpreters. This disparity creates immense pressure on existing interpreters and limits real-time communication accessibility for deaf individuals.

Tomer Aharoni, CEO and co-founder of Nagish, stated, “Nagish’s mission has always been to utilize innovative technology to empower individuals to communicate more freely, and this acquisition is a key step in fulfilling that vision. As the demand for ASL interpreters grows, so does the potential for AI to help bridge that gap and make a difference where an interpreter may not be available.” He added, “The advances that sign.mt has made are remarkable. We are excited to utilize this technology in our research as we work to take accessible communication to the next level, creating a whole new level of independence for our users.”

Dr. Amit Moryossef, the newly appointed Head of Research at Nagish, commented, “By joining Nagish, we’re taking a major step toward a future where deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals can fully participate in every aspect of society.”
