Sundar Pichai Confirms Gemini 3.0 Release This Year, Discusses AI Future and Quantum Computing Ambitions

TLDR: Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Gemini 3.0, an advanced AI agent, will be released this year, highlighting the company’s accelerated AI development by integrating Google Brain and DeepMind. Speaking at Dreamforce 2025, Pichai also projected the commercial viability of quantum computers within a few years and emphasized the need for encryption adaptation. He also revealed a $15 billion investment for Google’s largest AI hub outside the US in Visakhapatnam, India.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed that the highly anticipated Gemini 3.0, an advanced artificial intelligence agent, is slated for release later this year. This announcement was made during a conversation with Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff at the annual Dreamforce 2025 conference in San Francisco on October 16. Pichai emphasized that Gemini 3.0 is expected to be “an even more powerful AI agent that has made more noticeable progress than in the past few years.”

Pichai detailed Google’s intensified focus on AI development, stating, “We kickstarted Gemini. We brought Google Brain and Google DeepMind together and we’ve been rapidly iterating since then.” He further elaborated on Google’s “full-stack approach to AI,” which includes significant investments in infrastructure and proprietary chip development. Looking ahead, Pichai expressed immense excitement for the future of AI, predicting that “the progress in 2026 is going to be even more exciting than 2025.”

Addressing the competitive landscape, Pichai acknowledged OpenAI’s early public release of ChatGPT. He revealed that Google had also been developing an internal chatbot, but it was not deemed ready for public launch due to “a lot of issues at that time” and associated risks. Despite this, he expressed “excitement” rather than frustration when ChatGPT launched, recognizing that “the window had shifted.”

Beyond AI, Pichai also shared Google’s ambitious vision for quantum computing. He projected the “advent of the quantum computing era within the next decade” and stated Google’s aim to achieve a “commercially viable quantum computer within a few years.” He underscored the critical need for adapting encryption systems to quantum computing within “3-5 years” to mitigate potential vulnerabilities, particularly concerning cryptocurrencies. Pichai’s optimism is partly attributed to Google’s quantum research team receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics for two consecutive years.

In a significant regional investment, Pichai announced Google’s plan to establish its largest AI hub outside the United States in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), India. This $15 billion investment, spread over the next five years (2026-2030), is expected to combine gigawatt-scale data center operations, new large-scale energy sources, and an expanded fiber-optic network, aiming to accelerate AI-driven transformation across various sectors.
