TLDR: RT-One, a U.S. multinational, has announced a groundbreaking investment of over $1.2 billion to construct Latin America’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The facility, designed for advanced AI workloads and high-performance computing, will operate on 100% renewable energy and aims to significantly boost Brazil’s digital infrastructure and global competitiveness.
Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil – RT-One, a prominent U.S. multinational, has officially announced its ambitious plans to build what is projected to be Latin America’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This monumental project represents an initial investment exceeding US$1.2 billion, signaling a significant leap forward for Brazil’s digital infrastructure and its position in the global technology landscape.
The facility will span over one million square meters, with 630,000 square meters designated for construction and an additional 300,000 square meters preserved as a permanent environmental reserve. The strategic location in Uberlândia, along the route to Prata, is set to become a new hub for digital innovation in Brazil.
The data center is engineered to support a wide array of advanced digital services, including high-performance computing, sovereign cloud services, cybersecurity, and, critically, advanced AI workloads. Its initial phase will launch with an impressive 100MW of installed capacity, with plans for a substantial expansion to 400MW.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of RT-One’s vision for this project. The data center will adhere to international energy efficiency standards, operating entirely on 100% renewable power. It will also incorporate advanced cooling technologies to minimize its environmental footprint, with RT-One’s global CEO, Fernando Palamone, previously indicating a target Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rate of 1.2 or even 1.1, which would place it among the industry’s most efficient facilities.
Fernando Palamone emphasized the strategic importance of this investment, stating, “AI processing capacity is vital for the modern world. Robust, secure and sovereign data centres are the foundation of this new digital era.” He further added, “By bringing this infrastructure to Brazil, we are preparing the country to compete globally, generate high-quality jobs and train new talent to lead the digital transformation.” Ricardo Simões, Vice President of RT-One, also highlighted the project’s commitment to integrating environmental considerations into its design.
Beyond its technological advancements, the project is expected to have a profound regional impact. It aims to stimulate economic development, create numerous high-quality jobs, and establish training programs to cultivate new talent in the digital sector. Public officials, including Paulo Sérgio, Mayor of Uberlândia, and Fabiano Alves, Secretary of Economic Development and Innovation, attended the project launch, underscoring the local government’s support.
RT-One is collaborating with a consortium of global technology leaders for this endeavor, including Hitachi, WEG, Siemens, Vertiv, Schneider Electric, Engemon Construtora, Multiway Infra, and Munters. This partnership ensures the integration of cutting-edge technologies and expertise into the data center’s construction and operation.
