Toronto, Canada – September 24, 2025 – Cohere, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) scaleup headquartered in Toronto, has announced a significant extension to its latest funding round, securing an additional $100 million USD. This fresh capital injection elevates the company’s valuation to an impressive $7 billion USD, marking a rapid increase in its market standing.
The $100 million investment comes as a ‘second close’ to a previously announced $500 million funding round, demonstrating continued strong investor confidence in Cohere’s vision and technology. The new funds are earmarked to accelerate the global adoption of Cohere’s enterprise AI products and to expand strategic partnerships, notably with semiconductor giant AMD.
Key investors in this latest extension include BDC (Business Development Bank of Canada) and Nexxus Capital. Geneviève Bouthillier of BDC emphasized the strategic importance of Cohere’s work, stating, “Cohere is a leader in the generative AI space, which is key for our Canadian businesses to make significant productivity gains and for BDC as a development bank.”
Cohere, founded in 2019 by former Google AI researchers, including co-founder Aidan Gomez (one of the authors of the foundational ‘Attention Is All You Need’ paper), has carved out a niche by focusing exclusively on enterprise-grade AI solutions for businesses and governments. Unlike many competitors that repurpose consumer-facing AI models, Cohere prioritizes a security-first approach tailored to the complex needs of large organizations. This strategy has resonated strongly in the market, with the company reporting a remarkable tripling of its revenue this year.

Earlier reports indicated a $6.8 billion valuation following the initial $500 million round, which itself was a significant jump from its $5.5 billion valuation in July 2024. This consistent upward trend underscores the intense demand for advanced AI capabilities in the business sector and Cohere’s position at the forefront of this technological revolution.
