Announced in August 2025, this comprehensive program is designed to prepare students for an AI-driven future, support faculty in adopting AI tools, and streamline university processes.
University President Brian Sandoval emphasized the transformative potential of PACK AI, stating, “PACK AI is our next institutional imperative that provides transformative educational opportunities for our faculty and students, groundbreaking research that leads our state and nation, and provides the research and workforce of the future for our region to excel in economic development.”
Under the PACK AI initiative, new students enrolling this semester are now required to complete an introductory AI module as part of their NevadaFIT experience. This module covers the ethical use of AI, its applications, and the university’s policies on AI and academic integrity. Furthermore, first-year and transfer students will gain access to advanced AI tools like Microsoft CoPilot and Apple Intelligence on their university-issued iPads, a continuation of the Digital Wolf Pack Initiative.
Faculty development is a cornerstone of PACK AI. The university is providing extensive resources and workshops to enhance educators’ capabilities in AI, focusing on how generative AI can be incorporated into classes, assignments, and tutoring. These efforts are expected to boost student engagement through personalized feedback, interactive learning tools, and adaptive content tailored to diverse learning styles. While a specific ‘new biochemistry professor’ was not detailed in the broader announcements, such a role would align perfectly with the university’s strategic vision to leverage generative AI for enhanced student engagement within specific disciplines.
Beyond the classroom, PACK AI also targets campus productivity and efficiency by integrating AI into business processes and data analytics. The initiative kicked off with a presentation by Joel Davis, executive director of the David F. Miller Retail Center at the University of Florida, who brings 25 years of experience in analytics, AI, and business operations.
