Shift Technology Introduces ‘Shift Claims’ Platform, Harnessing Agentic AI for Insurance Claims Transformation

TLDR: Shift Technology has unveiled ‘Shift Claims,’ an innovative AI platform leveraging agentic artificial intelligence to revolutionize insurance claims operations. The solution aims to enhance efficiency, reduce leakage, and accelerate resolution by intelligently assessing cases, assisting human handlers, and automating various tasks across the claims lifecycle. This development builds on Shift’s prior integration of generative AI, further empowering insurers with advanced AI capabilities.

BOSTON and PARIS – September 16, 2025 – Shift Technology, a prominent AI platform dedicated to the insurance sector, today announced the launch of ‘Shift Claims.’ This new offering is powered by agentic artificial intelligence (AI) and is designed to fundamentally transform insurance claims operations, promising to reduce claims leakage, expedite resolution times, and significantly improve customer satisfaction.

The ‘Shift Claims’ platform is engineered to intelligently assess and prioritize insurance cases, provide comprehensive guidance and assistance to claim handlers, and automate a multitude of tasks throughout the entire claims lifecycle. The overarching goal is to streamline processing, boost accuracy, and curtail claims losses and handling costs, all while ensuring a superior experience for policyholders.

The insurance industry has long grappled with the complexities inherent in claims transformation projects. The unique and varied journey of each claim, from the first notice of loss (FNOL) to its ultimate closure, has historically rendered rules-based technological approaches inadequate. This often necessitated frequent human intervention even for routine processes, leading to delays and increased operational expenses.

Eric Sibony, Chief Scientist and Chief Product Officer at Shift Technology, elaborated on this challenge: “It is not surprising that the results promised by claims transformation projects over the years have failed to materialize, because most technology based approaches were simply not up to the task of addressing claim complexity.” He added, “Agentic AI provides insurers with a powerful transformation tool that increases automation when appropriate and also provides the right kind of advice, guidance, and recommendations when a human claim handler needs to be in the loop.”

Shift Technology’s commitment to advanced AI is evident in its prior achievements. In 2024, the company successfully integrated generative AI (Gen AI) into its solutions, enabling insurance professionals to make more informed decisions and achieve better outcomes. Since then, Shift’s specialized insurance-trained large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated high efficacy in critical areas such as information extraction, document summarization and classification, and liability determination for subrogation and recovery efforts. Agentic AI further advances these capabilities by allowing LLMs to access and utilize a diverse set of tools, enabling them to take autonomous, task-specific actions.

AXA Switzerland has emerged as an early adopter of the ‘Shift Claims’ platform. Markus Keller, COO and Head of Customer Operations at AXA Switzerland, expressed confidence in the new solution: “We are looking for an AI-powered solution to support our claims transformation and to increase automation while ensuring that claims professionals, when human intervention is required, have all the information available for optimal decision making. The Shift approach to agentic AI gives us confidence that best actions are enabled and taken as claims move through the process, resulting in enhanced efficiency and excellent customer experience.”
