TLDR: The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) has launched the CILEX AI Academy in collaboration with online learning platform 5Mins.ai. This initiative aims to provide personalized, bite-sized AI training to legal professionals, covering essential topics such as generative AI tools, prompt engineering, AI ethics, data security, and professional responsibility, to ensure they remain competitive and mitigate risks in the rapidly evolving legal tech landscape.
The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) has announced the launch of its new AI Academy, developed in partnership with the online learning platform 5Mins.ai. This strategic move is designed to equip legal professionals with the critical AI literacy skills necessary to navigate the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the legal sector.
CILEX, which represents 7,000 practising legal executives in England and Wales—fully qualified legal professionals authorized to practice alongside solicitors—recognizes the increasing importance of AI, particularly for those involved in process-intensive legal work. The CILEX AI Academy is an online training platform offering ‘bite-sized sessions on generative AI tools, prompt engineering, AI ethics, data security and professional responsibility.’ The curriculum is designed to be dynamic, with modules that ‘evolve to keep pace with the rapidly changing AI landscape’ and champion ‘ethical and responsible use of AI.’
According to CILEX Commercial Director, Toby Moseley, the academy addresses a critical need within the legal community. “No one doubts the significant impact AI is having on the legal sector but outside the UK’s largest firms, many risk getting left behind as they struggle to keep on top of new developments and the urgent need to upskill staff,” Moseley stated. The academy aims to enable law firms and legal teams to ‘build genuinely AI-literate teams in weeks, not years,’ providing cutting-edge skills and ‘future-proofing their organisations without the need for lengthy build times or significant tech investment.’
Saurav Chopra, founder and CEO of 5Mins.ai, emphasized the platform’s unique approach. “Legal professionals need to master AI tools without compromising client confidentiality or professional standards,” Chopra noted. He added that their platform delivers this complex training through ‘the same engagement mechanics that make social media addictive – but with content designed by legal AI experts.’ The training also focuses on managing ‘associated risks to ensure both the organisation and its clients are protected,’ citing examples like avoiding unauthorized client data uploads to public AI tools and verifying AI-generated legal facts with linked citations.
