TLDR: Baidu has launched its most significant search engine upgrade in a decade, integrating advanced AI features for more intuitive and comprehensive results. Concurrently, the company introduced MuseSteamer, an AI-driven image-to-video model specifically designed for business users, capable of generating high-quality short-form video content. These moves underscore Baidu’s strategic pivot to solidify its leadership in China’s intensifying AI landscape.
Beijing, China – Baidu, China’s leading search engine and AI powerhouse, has announced a sweeping overhaul of its core search platform, marking its most substantial transformation in a decade. Alongside this significant upgrade, the company unveiled MuseSteamer, an innovative AI-powered image-to-video generation model aimed squarely at the enterprise market.
The revamped search engine introduces a ‘smart box’ mobile app search bar, dramatically enhancing user interaction. It now accommodates queries up to 1,000 Chinese characters, a substantial leap from the previous 28-character limit, and supports conversational language, voice commands, and image uploads. The new capabilities extend beyond traditional keyword searches, offering AI-generated text and images, trip planning, object recognition, and even report writing directly within the search interface. This functionality is powered by Baidu’s multimodal Ernie AI models and integrates over 18,000 third-party AI agents, which can autonomously break down and complete complex tasks.
This evolution signifies a fundamental shift from the long-standing ‘query in, links out’ paradigm, with research indicating that AI-generated summaries are increasingly providing direct answers, reducing the need for users to click through to external websites. By April 2025, approximately 35% of mobile search result pages already featured AI-generated content, including images and digital human videos, up from 22% in January.
Complementing its search advancements, Baidu’s new MuseSteamer model is set to revolutionize video content creation for businesses. This AI-driven tool transforms still images into dynamic video clips, capable of generating lifelike 1080p videos up to 10 seconds long, complete with visuals, audio effects, and synthesized human voices. MuseSteamer is offered in three versions: Turbo, Pro, and Lite, catering to diverse business needs.
Unlike consumer-focused rivals such as OpenAI’s Sora, MuseSteamer is strategically designed for business users, addressing the high cost and complexity associated with producing short-form video content. It aims to enable enterprises across industries like digital marketing, gaming, e-commerce, and content production to generate engaging videos at scale, thereby reducing production costs and accelerating content pipelines. The model is underpinned by Baidu’s Qianfan MaaS (Model-as-a-Service) platform, which has already demonstrated significant enterprise value, contributing to over 100% year-over-year growth in AI-related services revenue in Q1 2025.

These strategic launches come amidst an escalating AI arms race in China, with major players like Alibaba and Tencent making substantial investments in AI and integrating new models into their consumer applications. ByteDance, with its algorithmic strengths, also poses a significant challenge. Dan Ives, global head of tech research with Wedbush Securities, commented on Baidu’s aggressive stance, stating, ‘Baidu is not waiting around to watch the paint dry, full steam ahead on AI.’ Baidu’s latest innovations are a clear attempt to leverage its core AI research strengths and maintain its competitive edge in this rapidly evolving technological landscape.
