It addresses the common challenge of fragmented data by integrating various legal tools and documents—such as cap tables in Carta, minute books across iManage and DocuSign, and client data—into one cohesive system. Wilson explained, ‘Walter is a collaboration tool between the law firm and their client to store all of the information that makes up the complete legal picture of that client’s records.’
The company, already in use at some of the world’s largest law firms for its record-keeping capabilities, has now expanded its offerings into artificial intelligence. The newly launched AI Agent is specifically engineered to avoid the pitfalls of ‘sparkly demos’ that often fail to deliver practical value. Wilson emphasized, ‘We didn’t want to be a thin layer on top of somebody else’s AI. What we wanted to be is a really thick layer of data and tools that are needed to make AI agents actually deliver on the promise of the transformation that is possible in the legal industry.’
A key differentiator for Walter’s AI Agent is its native integration with Microsoft Word and Outlook, which are central to lawyers’ daily workflows. Unlike many competing tools that convert documents into lossy formats like Markdown, Walter’s solution works directly within these applications, preserving formatting, tracking changes, and managing complex references.
Initial feedback from law firms and users has been ‘overwhelmingly positive,’ with many calling it ‘the best AI agent I’ve ever used,’ according to Wilson.
