The company’s efforts underscore a strategic focus on leveraging artificial intelligence for economic development and problem-solving in the region.

In Mexico, during the ‘Google for Mexico 2024’ event on September 10, 2024, Google announced 90,000 new scholarships for free online education. These scholarships are designed to equip individuals with essential digital skills for the evolving AI era. Furthermore, Google is introducing ‘Gemini Education’ and ‘Generative AI for Educators,’ a free course developed in collaboration with MIT RAISE (Responsible AI for Social Empowerment) and Education. This program aims to integrate Generative AI into the daily tasks of teachers across all disciplines. Google’s economic impact in Mexico is significant, with its products and platforms, including Search, Ads, AdSense, Play, YouTube, and Google Cloud, injecting over 278 billion Mexican pesos into the economy in 2023. The Android app ecosystem alone supports 170,800 jobs, highlighting the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit in the country. Beyond training, Google.org, the company’s philanthropic arm, is investing $1.5 million to support the International Water Management Institute in developing an AI-powered platform for sustainable water management, directly addressing water scarcity in Mexico.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, Google Cloud has pledged to train an ambitious 1 million Brazilians in AI and cloud technologies in the coming years. This commitment was highlighted during the Web Summit Rio 2025, as announced on April 29, 2025. The initiative encompasses a variety of free training programs already in progress, including partnerships with more than 300 universities and technical schools, new courses available on YouTube, and professional credentials obtainable through the Google Cloud Skills Boost platform.
