Genesys Leverages AI for Significant Carbon Footprint Reduction and Sustainable Cloud Operations

TLDR: Genesys, a leader in AI-powered experience orchestration, has announced substantial progress in its sustainability efforts, achieving carbon-neutral operations for its Genesys Cloud platform since 2024 and a 13% reduction in overall greenhouse gas emissions in Fiscal Year 2025. The company attributes this success to a strategic focus on energy-efficient AI models, optimized cloud infrastructure, and a commitment to ethical AI development, all while expanding its AI feature set.

Genesys, a global leader in AI-powered experience orchestration, has released its Fiscal Year 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting remarkable strides in environmental responsibility. The report, covering the period from February 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025, details the company’s commitment to balancing platform growth with environmental stewardship, particularly through the innovative application of artificial intelligence.

Under the leadership of Chief Sustainability Officer Bridgette Bell McAdoo, Genesys has successfully made its Genesys Cloud operations carbon neutral since 2024, a status it has maintained despite significant growth in usage and the launch of over 150 new AI features. This achievement is part of broader, ambitious goals to become fully carbon neutral by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, with targets submitted to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

A key aspect of Genesys’s strategy involves making its AI systems inherently more efficient. The company has implemented techniques such as model compression, right-sized architectures, and the use of foundation models to drastically reduce the energy consumption required for training and running its machine learning models. This approach allows Genesys to expand its AI capabilities, including new features like Virtual Supervisor and Agent Copilot, while minimizing environmental impact.

Beyond AI optimization, Genesys is also focusing on energy efficiency across its cloud infrastructure, which is built on a microservices architecture delivered via AWS. This includes optimizing how its cloud infrastructure runs and scaling resource consumption to demand, ensuring energy is only used as needed. The company is also increasing its use of renewable energy, fine-tuning emissions tracking, and engaging employees in conservation efforts.

Bridgette Bell McAdoo emphasized, “We didn’t just grow our platform, we grew our responsibility.” This philosophy extends to helping customers reduce their own carbon footprints by migrating from on-premises deployments to the more energy-efficient Genesys Cloud.

In addition to environmental goals, Genesys is deeply committed to ethical AI development. The company has enhanced its AI Ethics Guidelines, introduced customer-facing product cards for transparency, and established a new AI Ethics Roundtable to review features and promote responsible innovation.
