TLDR: Magic Labs, known for simplifying crypto wallet access, is embarking on a new chapter with ‘Magic Newton,’ a platform designed to empower AI agents to securely manage digital assets and execute financial strategies. This shift aims to abstract away blockchain complexity, offering a future where AI ‘concierges’ handle everything from investments to daily transactions, backed by robust security and compliance.
Magic Labs, a company that has already made significant strides in the Web3 space by onboarding over 50 million crypto wallets through user-friendly email and SMS login methods, is now charting an ambitious new course. The company is transitioning ‘from wallets to agents’ with the introduction of ‘Magic Newton,’ a platform poised to redefine autonomous finance by leveraging artificial intelligence.
Sean Li, co-founder and CEO of Magic Labs, articulated this transformative vision in a recent discussion, highlighting the company’s commitment to simplifying the onchain experience. ‘Magic started in 2018 with a vision to simplify wallets, which at the time were the worst part of going onchain,’ Li stated. Having successfully ‘invented a multi-billion dollar category,’ Magic Labs is now tackling what it identifies as ‘the worst part of going onchain today’ – the fragmented and complex developer tools and the lack of user-friendly products for mass adoption.
Newton is designed to set users free by offering ‘simpler crypto UX with verifiable AI agents.’ The core idea is to create a financial internet where humans define their intent, and AI agents handle the intricate execution. Li envisions a future where AI ‘concierges’ can securely manage digital assets, execute sophisticated investment strategies, and even handle everyday tasks like purchasing goods or booking travel. This paradigm shift is likened to building a ‘digital institution or constitution for autonomous finance,’ emphasizing the need for trust and control in an increasingly automated world.
Magic Labs plans to achieve this by developing cryptographic policy engines that enforce these crucial elements of trust and control. The company is focused on making both crypto and AI more accessible to everyday users, exploring various interface designs, including LLM-based conversational experiences and hybrid chat-and-click models. A key thesis revolves around a ‘deposit box’ concept, where users can fund an agent or bot to execute specific strategies, such as dollar-cost averaging.
Security remains paramount for Magic Labs. The company asserts its leadership in ‘secure scalability and performance,’ with its commitment backed by industry-leading best practices and certifications, including SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001:2013, HIPAA, CCPA, and GDPR. Wallets, while still fundamental, will evolve to serve as ‘signers’ or ‘remote controls’ for these AI agents, facilitating the movement of funds and interactions within the digital financial ecosystem. Magic Labs aims to provide both the necessary infrastructure and the robust security required for this new era of AI-driven finance.
