For instance, Qantas recently experienced an AI-powered ‘vishing’ attack that compromised personal data, illustrating how AI has made high-impact fraud more accessible and convincing. Experts like Mishaal Khan, an ethical hacker, emphasize that AI is boosting social engineering attacks through perfected voice cloning and deepfake videos, creating highly realistic scams. He notes that ‘Social engineering is the heart of the attack, but there’s more value in it if you combine open-source intelligence because that’s the data piece.’
