USD.AI, an innovative stablecoin protocol designed to provide crucial credit to artificial intelligence (AI) companies, has announced the successful completion of its Series A funding round, securing $13 million. The round was spearheaded by Framework Ventures, with additional significant contributions from Bullish, Dragonfly, and Arbitrum. This substantial investment is set to bolster USD.AI’s mission to expand its GPU-backed stablecoin lending services, addressing a critical funding gap for emerging AI firms.
Developed by Permian Labs, USD.AI operates on a novel model that utilizes graphics processing unit (GPU) hardware as collateral for loans. This approach dramatically streamlines the lending process, reportedly cutting approval times by over 90% compared to traditional financial institutions. The on-chain system features two key tokens: USDai, a dollar-pegged stablecoin, and sUSDai, a yield-bearing variant that is backed by income-generating compute assets.
David Choi, CEO of USD.AI, emphasized the disruptive nature of their model, stating that it ‘treats GPUs like commodities.’ This innovative perspective facilitates swift, programmatic loan approvals, bypassing the conventional gatekeeping often associated with traditional lending. The company’s strategy is designed to democratize access to capital for AI companies, which are experiencing a surge in demand for high-performance computing resources.
Vance Spencer of Framework Ventures drew a compelling parallel, likening the capital demands of the AI sector to the ‘oil boom.’ He highlighted that USD.AI is poised to not only democratize access to funding for these burgeoning AI enterprises but also offer investors an attractive yield directly tied to the growth of the AI industry.
