TLDR: Brightwave Inc. has launched a new ‘research agents’ product that leverages autonomous AI agents to generate detailed research reports across a multitude of topics. This platform aims to streamline complex research by orchestrating specialized agents, moving beyond the company’s initial focus on financial reporting.
Brightwave Inc. has officially introduced its innovative ‘research agents’ product, a platform designed to empower users with the ability to command a fleet of specialized autonomous AI agents to produce extensive research reports on virtually any subject. This new offering marks a significant expansion for Brightwave, which previously focused on generating financial reports.
The platform draws inspiration from the user interface and system designs of advanced AI-powered coding tools such as Cursor. It is engineered to simplify the creation of ‘long-running’ autonomous agents capable of performing open-ended research tasks without constant human oversight. At its core, the system utilizes conversational AI and natural language understanding to interpret a user’s request and formulate a comprehensive research plan. This plan then dictates a sequence of activities, which can include cloning and refining existing documents, updating information, and constructing data-rich charts or evidence-linked tables.
Once the research plan is established, Brightwave’s asynchronous background agent deploys a variety of specialized agents—including search, reasoning, planning, presentation, and fact-checking agents—to compile the required report. A crucial aspect of the platform’s quality control is its integration with a large language model judge. This independent system employs powerful reasoning to assess whether the generated research output fully satisfies the user’s original request. Similar to how AI code generators use unit tests, Brightwave’s agents rely on ‘satisfaction criteria’ to ensure the production of high-quality, well-grounded, and factual research reports.
Mike Conover, co-founder and Chief Executive of Brightwave, highlighted the platform’s versatility. For instance, it can generate detailed reports on specific market impacts, such as identifying real estate and energy companies likely to benefit from U.S. President Donald Trump’s AI policies. The system aggregates data from diverse sources, including Whitehouse.gov, public filings, regulatory disclosures, blog posts, and news reports, to create comprehensive reports enriched with visuals.

Brightwave initially gained attention last October after securing $15 million in funding for its platform, which was then primarily dedicated to financial reporting. That iteration synthesized insights from numerous financial documents, including earnings reports, conference call transcripts, financial statements, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, and news stories, to assist clients in making informed investment decisions. The current expansion into broader research topics leverages this proven agentic AI research capability, extending its application across various industries.
