Nasdaq Verafin Unveils Agentic AI Workforce to Revolutionize AML Compliance for Banks

TLDR: Nasdaq Verafin has launched its Agentic AI Workforce, a suite of digital workers designed to automate high-volume, low-value Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance tasks. This initiative aims to significantly enhance efficiency for financial institutions, allowing human investigators to focus on more complex financial crimes.

New York, NY – July 21, 2025 – Nasdaq Verafin, a leading provider of financial crime management solutions, today announced the launch of its Agentic AI Workforce, a groundbreaking suite of digital workers set to transform Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance operations for banks. This innovative platform leverages agentic artificial intelligence to automate routine yet resource-intensive compliance processes, marking a significant step forward in the fight against financial crime.

The Agentic AI Workforce comprises specialized digital workers, with initial focus areas including sanctions screening and enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews. The Digital Sanctions Analyst is engineered to drastically reduce the workload associated with alert reviews, particularly by managing false positive alerts—a persistent challenge that often overwhelms compliance teams with manual checks. Similarly, the Digital EDD Analyst automates periodic EDD reviews, efficiently assessing and closing low-risk cases. This automation is expected to free up compliance staff, enabling them to concentrate on higher-risk accounts and more sophisticated investigations.

According to a Nasdaq Verafin survey of over 200 industry professionals, a staggering 75% reported increasing their investment in headcount over the past year to bolster financial crime prevention efforts. Despite this increased investment, nearly half of the respondents indicated a lack of adequate resources and technology to effectively combat financial crime. The Agentic AI Workforce directly addresses this critical industry need by providing a scalable and efficient solution.

Rob Norris, SVP and Head of Product at Nasdaq Verafin, emphasized the transformative potential of the new platform. “In today’s operating environment, banks are tasked with navigating a growing number of compliance challenges from evolving regulatory requirements to the shortcomings of legacy technology and impact of resource constraints on compliance teams,” said Norris. “Our Agentic AI Workforce will transform the way banks of all sizes approach AML compliance, delivering a step change in efficiency gains that allows compliance teams to shift efforts and focus on the important work of tackling serious financial crimes such as human trafficking, drug trafficking, and other facets of organized crime.”

This launch builds upon the successful adoption of Nasdaq Verafin’s GenAI Entity Research Copilot, which has been utilized by over 1,300 clients since its introduction in Q2 2025, streamlining investigations and documentation in tens of thousands of cases. The new digital workers, capable of independently analyzing, documenting, and decisioning end-to-end processes with minimal supervision, are expected to be available to clients later in 2025.

The deployment of AI in financial crime detection is gaining traction, with reports indicating its superior performance. For instance, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) reported that AI outperformed traditional fraud defenses by approximately 26% in detecting suspicious activity. As financial institutions face increasing fraud and compliance pressures, continued investment in AI solutions appears inevitable, despite inherent risks.
