TLDR: A recent Salesforce Slack Workforce Index survey of 5,000 global desk workers reveals a dramatic 233% increase in daily AI usage over six months. The report highlights AI’s role in boosting productivity by 64% and job satisfaction by 81% for daily users, enabling workers to perform new tasks and fostering greater workplace connection.
Artificial intelligence adoption among desk workers has surged dramatically, with daily usage skyrocketing by an astounding 233% in just six months, according to the latest Slack Workforce Index released by Salesforce. The comprehensive survey, which polled 5,000 global desk workers across various countries including Australia, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, underscores AI’s emergence as a significant competitive advantage in the modern workplace.
The report indicates that workers who integrate AI into their daily routines are 64% more productive and 81% more satisfied with their jobs compared to their non-AI-using counterparts. This rapid embrace of AI goes beyond mere task automation; the Index reveals that 96% of workers have leveraged AI to perform tasks they previously lacked the skills to accomplish. Furthermore, today’s workers are 154% more inclined to utilize AI agents for enhancing performance and fostering creativity, rather than solely for simple automation.
Peter Doolan, EVP & Chief Customer Officer at Slack, Salesforce, commented on this trend, stating, “AI adoption is accelerating rapidly, and it’s changing the way the world works for the better. As more workers embrace AI, businesses are able to unlock greater productivity and value, and help their employees focus on work that drives real impact and growth.”
While executives initially led the charge in enterprise AI adoption, desk workers are quickly catching up. The survey shows that 60% of desk workers now use AI, with 40% specifically engaging with AI agents. This rise in usage correlates with a growing trust and confidence in the technology; workers who use AI agents daily are twice as likely to trust them. Lucas Puente, VP of Research at Slack, emphasized this point: “When it comes to workers and AI, the data shows us that seeing is believing. As workers actually use and experiment with AI agents, their trust and enthusiasm in this technology grows – and we see them leveraging agents to unlock new skills and opportunities in their day-to-day work.”
Millennials are emerging as surprising power users of AI, with 30% of this demographic reporting a thorough understanding of AI agents, surpassing even Gen Z (22%). A significant 68% of Millennials utilize AI for strategic tasks such as drafting, summarizing, and ideating. Executive daily AI use stands at 43%, compared to 35% for senior managers and 23% for middle managers.
Contrary to concerns that AI might lead to workplace isolation, the data suggests the opposite. Daily AI users are 246% more likely to feel connected to their colleagues and report a 62% higher sense of belonging at work. Among Gen Z workers, a third (34%) feel more connected due to AI, and 29% report increased engagement with teammates. AI is credited with boosting performance in key areas including eliminating the need for extensive research, assisting with writing and communication, and supporting brainstorming to overcome creative blocks.
