The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) is poised to roll out its GenAI Accelerator Programme in August, a comprehensive e-learning initiative designed to bolster its members’ proficiency in generative artificial intelligence. This move comes as GenAI increasingly reshapes the finance and accountancy sectors, presenting both significant opportunities and challenges for professionals.
According to the ICAEW’s 2025 member research, more than half of surveyed ICAEW Chartered Accountants identified technology, automation, and GenAI as the primary opportunities and challenges facing their profession. While a substantial 85% of members expressed willingness to adopt AI, many also reported feeling unprepared, citing a lack of adequate training as a key barrier to adoption.
Peter Beard, founder of GenFinance.AI, a firm that supported the creation of the accelerator programme, highlighted the transformative nature of this technology. “The finance and accounting profession has experienced waves of new technologies over the decades, but nothing like this,” Beard stated. He emphasized that “The scope and scale of what GenAI can do, its flexibility and its cost-effectiveness mean unparalleled and democratised access to knowledge and capability. It is one of the most fundamental technological changes of our time.” Beard further noted the empowering aspect of GenAI, explaining, “GenAI is incredibly empowering for users, no longer do you have to be a coder, an engineer or a programmer to access artificial intelligence.”

Members can register now to gain early access and practical insights into tools such as ChatGPT, CoPilot, and Grok. This new programme follows the successful Sustainability Accelerator Programme, demonstrating ICAEW’s commitment to equipping its members with cutting-edge skills for the evolving professional landscape.
