Tel Aviv, Israel – In a striking display of resilience against global economic headwinds, Israel’s cybersecurity ecosystem saw its private funding nearly double in 2024 compared to 2023, according to the ‘2025 Cybersecurity Spotlight’ report released by Startup Nation Central, a non-profit tracking Israel’s innovation landscape. This surge stands in stark contrast to the contraction observed in European and Asian markets, underscoring unwavering investor confidence in Israel’s unique innovation model, even amidst geopolitical challenges such as the Israel-Hamas War.
The report reveals that Israeli cybersecurity companies attracted funding equivalent to a remarkable 40% of the entire U.S. cyber market last year, solidifying the nation’s outsized role in global digital defense. While Israel’s cyber cluster accounts for just 7% of its broader tech industry by company count, it commanded an impressive 38% of all tech investment in 2024. The sector’s long-term expansion has also significantly outpaced the rest of the startup economy, with the number of active cyber firms growing by 86% over the past decade, compared to 36% growth for Israeli tech overall.
Currently, Israel is home to over 500 cybersecurity companies, developing technologies that span from AI-powered threat detection to cloud protection, secure enterprise browsers, and industrial system safeguards. Despite a large proportion of early-stage companies (approximately 60%), the ecosystem demonstrates a faster scaling profile than other segments of Israel’s tech scene. About 16% of Israeli cybersecurity firms are now classified as growth-stage, more than double the rate in other tech sectors. Merger and acquisition (M&A) activity remains the primary path to maturity, with 11% of Israeli cyber startups being acquired, significantly higher than the 1% that reach an IPO, a sharp contrast to other sectors where public listings are four times more common.
Experts attribute Israel’s enduring strength in cybersecurity to several unique factors. Many founders and professionals in Israeli firms gained invaluable experience serving in elite military intelligence and cyber units, such as the prestigious Unit 8200. This military-driven expertise provides a background of technical skills, real-world cyber defense, and a problem-solving mindset that effectively translates into the private sector. Furthermore, Israel boasts a robust innovation ecosystem, supported by government initiatives, academic institutions, and a strong emphasis on research and development, fostering continuous breakthroughs in areas like AI-driven security solutions.

The ‘2025 Cybersecurity Spotlight’ detailed how Israeli startups cover a wide array of domains, including application and website security, cloud security, data security, endpoint security, governance, risk management and compliance, identity security, industrial security, network and infrastructure security, security intelligence, and security operations.
Yevgeny Dibrov, CEO of Armis Security, emphasized the evolving role of cybersecurity: “When I look specifically at the field of cybersecurity, it’s evident that 2025 will be a pivotal year.
