TLDR: IBM has launched the world’s first AI-driven cricket activation, powered by its enterprise AI and data platform, Watsonx. Unveiled at Think Mumbai 2025, this initiative introduces the Cricket IQ Analytics Platform, designed to revolutionize coaching, player performance, and fan engagement through real-time, natural-language insights.
In a significant leap forward for sports technology, IBM has officially unveiled the world’s first AI-powered cricket activation at its Think Mumbai 2025 event. This groundbreaking initiative leverages IBM’s enterprise-ready AI and data platform, Watsonx, to introduce a new era of intelligence into the sport, aiming to transform everything from coaching strategies to fan interaction.
At the core of this activation is the “Cricket IQ Analytics Platform,” a generative AI system that processes a vast array of performance signals. These include player fitness, mental conditioning, match context, and environmental conditions. The platform then delivers actionable insights in natural language, enabling coaches to make faster, smarter, and more confident decisions during matches. IBM stated that this system moves AI from a passive data processor to an “invisible strategist” embedded within team operations.
The technology is already being deployed in collaboration with one of India’s leading state cricket associations, with IBM also confirming active discussions with an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise for potential integration ahead of the 2026 season. This strategic move underscores IBM’s ambition to become a core technology partner in professional cricket’s evolving landscape.
Beyond on-field applications, the Cricket IQ platform is also set to enhance fan engagement. IBM aims to combine advanced analytics with immersive digital storytelling, building on its successful track record of powering fan experiences at major global sporting events like Wimbledon, UFC, and Formula 1.
The launch aligns with findings from the IBM Sports Survey Report 2025, which highlights India as a rapidly advancing AI-literate sports market. The report indicates that 86% of Indian fans trust AI-generated sports content, 91% regularly use sports apps, and a remarkable 93% believe AI will shape their sports consumption by 2027. These statistics underscore the readiness of the Indian market to embrace AI-driven innovations in sports, making it an ideal launchpad for IBM’s new cricket activation.
