TLDR: The United States Marine Corps has postponed its crucial Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) workshop, originally scheduled for November 17-21, 2025, at Quantico, due to a lapse in federal appropriations. The event, intended to advance the integration of AI capabilities into military operations, is now slated for early Calendar Year 2026.
The United States Marine Corps has announced the postponement of its highly anticipated Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) workshop, a key initiative aimed at integrating advanced AI capabilities into the force. The delay, communicated via MARADMIN CANCELLATION 475/25, is a direct consequence of a lapse in federal funding, which has impacted various government operations.
The workshop was initially planned to take place from November 17-21, 2025, at Quantico. It was designed to bring together a diverse group of participants, including Marines, civilians, and industry experts, to collaboratively explore the potential of generative AI. The primary objectives included conducting warfighter-focused evaluations of large language models and other GenAI tools against real-world challenges, identifying high-impact use cases for the technology, providing overviews and demonstrations of joint force and industry solutions, and developing concrete courses of action for integrating these capabilities into the Marine Corps’ operational framework.
This workshop is a foundational step in the Corps’ broader strategy to achieve digital transformation and enhance decision advantage. Colin Crosby, the Marine Corps Service Data Officer (SDO) and deputy chief data officer for the Department of the Navy, emphasized the significance of these efforts in a LinkedIn post several weeks prior to the cancellation. He stated, ‘This is part of our deliberate weaponization of data and AI to drive cognitive overmatch, accelerate decision advantage, and amplify warfighter impact.’

The postponement means that the integration efforts will face a temporary setback, with new dates for the workshop expected to be published via a new MARADMIN in early Calendar Year 2026. The SDO’s office confirmed that all existing registrations and applications will be maintained for subsequent coordination once the revised schedule is confirmed.
