IIT Bhubaneswar Hosts Odisha’s Inaugural Generative AI Hackathon, Fostering Student Innovation

Bhubaneswar, Odisha – The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar, in a landmark collaboration with tech venture Jazzee, successfully hosted Odisha’s inaugural Generative AI Hackathon, aptly titled ‘Trillion Dollar Opportunity 2025.’ Held from July 3rd to 5th, 2025, on the IIT Bhubaneswar campus, this pioneering initiative aimed to empower student innovators and accelerate advancements in the rapidly evolving field of Generative AI.

The hackathon served as a dynamic platform, attracting aspiring developers, researchers, and AI enthusiasts from across the nation. Out of an impressive 126 teams, comprising 447 students who applied online, a select group of 11 elite teams, totaling 40 students, earned their spot in the grand finale at IIT Bhubaneswar. Participants engaged in 48 hours of non-stop coding, benefiting from expert mentorship and focusing on high-impact problem-solving to address real-world challenges using cutting-edge AI technologies.

The opening ceremony was graced by a distinguished panel of academicians and industry leaders, including Prof. V. Pandu Ranga, Dean of Continuing Education at IIT Bhubaneswar; Dr. Ranjan Kumar Pradhan, Director at OUTR-FINE; Prof. Prasant Kumar Sahu from IIT Bhubaneswar; and Mr. Suchit Mishra, Founder & CEO of Jazzee. The event underscored its ambition to be a launchpad for breakthrough ideas that could significantly shape the future’s trillion-dollar GenAI landscape.

Mr. Suchit Mishra, Founder & CEO of Jazzee, articulated the profound potential of AI, stating, “We are living in an age of abundance—where AI is set to abstract complexity and unlock limitless opportunities for every developer.” This sentiment resonated throughout the hackathon, inspiring participants to push the boundaries of innovation.

The intense competition culminated in a valedictory ceremony attended by notable figures such as Prof. Jaideep Talukdar, Vice Chancellor of Silicon University; Prof. Debi Prosad Dogra, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at IIT Bhubaneswar; and Prof. Prasant Kumar Sahu. They lauded the participants for their ingenuity and dedication.

The top honors were awarded to:

First Prize (₹50,000): Team Evolve AI, comprising Rachit Goyal, Mukul Garg, and Kushagra Kataria from Chitkara University, Punjab.

Second Prize (₹30,000): Team AlphaQ, consisting of Achyut Mukund, Akshat Majila, and Satyam Jha from Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai, along with Ronit Raj from IIIT Gwalior.

Third Prize (₹20,000): Team K2013, represented by Anay from IISER Berhampur, and Samarth Sharma and Khwahish Vaid from Seneca Polytechnic.
