Encouraging Longer Prompts Through Effort
The researchers evaluated two primary interaction techniques that modify the prompt entry interface of chat-based generative AI assistants. The first technique, termed ‘motor cost,’ involves a progress bar that users must fill to submit a short prompt. This can be achieved by writing more words or by repeatedly moving a vertical slider up and down. The more words written, the less physical effort (slider movements) is required.
